Professor Colin MacCabe, University of Exeter School of English, says that to truly know a language, you should know something of the literature of a language.
Literature is intellectually stimulating, because a book allows the reader to imagine worlds that are unfamiliar. This is done by using descriptive language. In order to understand, The reader will create their vision of what the author is saying. In this sense, the reader becomes an artist or an actor in a communicative event they read.
Using literature in front of a textbook on communication (English conversational) changes the learning approach in learning to learn to say to say (grammar vs. creative thinking). Conversation-based programs tend to provide English lessons that focus on 'formulas' used in situations context so that there is little allowance for independent thought and adaptation of natural language speech. On the other hand, literature-based programs focus on the interpretation of the language so that students begin to experiment with language and incorporate this into their everyday speech and vocabulary. This experiment can be especially useful to students for use in different subjects like science.
For Carter and Long, approaches 3 main use of literature in a language classroom are:
1. Model cultural
- Based on the idea that literature is the expression:
* Socio-cultural attitudes.
* The aspirations of each society.
* Mythic and universal values.
- Text is considered as finished product.
- Associated with the teacher-centered approach
2. Language model
- Literature is taught to promote:
* Vocabulary
* Structure
* Manipulation Language
- It puts students in touch with creative uses subtle and varied language.
- Emphasizes language observation.
- Student-centered methodology.
3. The personal growth model
- Concerned more with students:
* Maturity as individuals
* As individuals progress through the reading
- "Literature for Life" approach
- Promotes individual evaluation and trial.
- Learning-centered approach.

1) Select a number of well-chosen books.
2) Establish a special time to read every book.
3) Let nothing interfere with their programming.
4) Use the discussion and research to create interest.

For older students

ok my mom's birthday is in 2 days and I found the perfect gift.
