The Rats Of Hamelin: A Piper's Tale is a Christian fantasy novel written by the father/son duo of Adam McCune and Keith McCune. The familiar childhood tale of the Pied Piper is told anew in the first person narrative of Hannes, a handsome, eighteen-year-old apprentice in the powerful Piper's Guild. Set in the year 1284, Hannes, who has been trained in magical piping by the Piper's Guild, is sent to Hamelin to rid the city of its rats as his final exam before becoming a Master Piper. The Rats Of Hamelin: A Piper's Tale is full of intrigue, and nothing is as it seems as Hannes must struggle to discern who is friend and who is foe in the town of Hamelin. After removing the rats of Hamelin, Hannes hopes to buy his father’s freedom with the reward, money but someone powerful is trying to keep the rats in Hamelin, and the Town Council has stolen every penny of the fund promised to Hannes. Almost everyone, including the people who hired him, appear to be against Hannes from the moment he arrives in Hamelin, and even the mayor’s daughter, who has caught Hannes' eye, seems to thenk he is not capable of finishing his task.
Ultimately, The Rats Of Hamelin: A Piper's Tale deals with balancing judgment with mercy. Full of unexpected twists and turns, I found The Rats Of Hamelin: A Piper's Tale a captivating story and well worth a read. The Rats Of Hamelin: A Piper's Tale is creative Christian fantasy where the morals don't hit you in the face, and the scriptural references are subtle and woven into the fantasy element.
